Ostrich

Ranger Rom Hi guys!

The ostrich is the largest bird in the world!

Since they do not have teeth, they need a way to digest their food in their 3 stomachs. They swallow pebbles, which sits in the stomach and helps grind the food. An adult ostrich can have up to 1kg of stone pebbles in its stomachs.

I definitely would not swallow stones myself!

Their eggs are rather large, about 15cm, and weigh as much as 24 normal chicken eggs.

The male sits on the eggs at night (incubation) and the female sits on the eggs during the day. I guess that might explain why the male is dark and the female is much more lighter in colour. In the dark, it will be hard to see the male ostrich.

How cool and intelligent is nature!

The wild ostrich population has declined drastically in the last 200 years, with most surviving birds in game parks or on farms :(

We all need to live simple lives which will put less stress on our natural environment. Our beautiful world and natural habitats need our protection. We are the guardians of the earth. We can all do our part in making it a better place.

So, do we really need sports cars, large buildings and factories that pollute our beautiful ocean? I am not so sure.
